Clay in Color: Intermediate Class

DESCRIPTION

Explore the possibilities of working with colorful clay in this 6-week class! After learning how to use mason stains to add pigment to clay, students will experiment with a variety of ways to create bold patterns and designs, using techniques such as agateware, inlay, and nerikomi. Throughout the class, we'll use both wheel throwing and handbuilding to explore how colored clay can be layered, combined, carved, and manipulated to create one-of-a-kind surfaces and patterns. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with each technique while developing their own creative ideas and projects. This class is designed for students who already have a foundation in wheel throwing and handbuilding. We will not be covering the basics of centering or throwing, so students should feel comfortable making simple forms independently on the wheel. Class enrollment includes 12.5 pounds of clay, mason stains of a variety of colors, access to our glazes, firing of all pieces, and unlimited Open Studio sessions through the end of the term to practice, refine your skills, and finish up your pieces. Class will take place on Tuesdays from 6-8pm, from November 3rd to December 8th, for a total of 6 classes
